I am thankful for many things. I feel that my personal experiences growing up gave me the opportunity to see just how much I have to be grateful for. Of those, running water and freedom are at the top of my list. I am amazed every time I turn on the tap and miraculously water-fresh, clean water comes out EVERY time for as long as I want it to. I am thankful that I can use this water without first having to draw it out of a well with a cold chain in the winter time. I am thankful that it never quits!!! Shower after shower, load of clothes after load of clothes, and dish after dish, it NEVER QUITS!!!!! I am thankful that a simple motion of switching the lever to the other side of the sink then makes HOT water come out-WOW!-not carrying a five gallon bucket into the house-after drawing it out of the well- and heating it potful by potful on the stove for a bath-it just is hot because I told it to be. My story is somewhat unique in the US in 2008, but in many many places throughout the world it is not. I was blessed with a well-all I had to do was get the water out. Water is necessary for survival, not comfort, and many people simply do not have it.
I recognize the opportunity for freedoms I am given that are not necessarily standard for the human race. I am reminded of the 11th Article of faith: "We claim the privilege of worshipping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may." This is a God given gift but, government granted right, not just because we were born human, but because we were born American. This is a right that we must protect. This is one of the Freedoms that we have by living in this great country. I have heard the argument given that our forefathers fought for Christianity, not true, they fought for freedom to practice Christianity...and all other forms of religion. We have free agency given by God, and free choice given by men. I am grateful for freedom-this and all freedoms. I am grateful that the only struggle getting to church on Sunday mornings is a bad hair day or uncooperative kids, not bombs, snipers, or the law that says I can not. I am grateful that we all have that choice, that we live in a somewhat diverse country. I am grateful that I have a choice in how I raise my children. I am grateful that they have a choice in who and what they become. Our opportunities are endless!

More cake!
Hey everyone, check out my new cakes on www.lawhobbies.blogspot.com. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions on my fall cake. I was so excited to do something really fun with it, then I ran out of time while planning Super Saturday (Wow!So much work!) and opted for a simpler one that I could practice on for my very first wedding cake!!! The pink one was the practice and the green was for the wedding. Thanks again!

Too Cute to Miss
I do understand that Halloween was October 31st and that it is now November 12th and I am just now posting pictures...but, oh well. I couldn't just skip this post. Sam was so excited about Halloween this year and REALLY wanted to go as a Power Ranger (when he hasn't ever even seen the show) but, being the evil, Power Ranger hating mother that I am, I found some of the original Transformer cartoons on Youtube and miraculously he changed his focus from Power Rangers to Optimus Prime! YAY!!! It worked. I can handle Optimus Prime. He was awesome. He wore his costume most of the week and several times since then!

What am I good at??
WARNING: RANDOM THOUGHTS AND PROBABLY MORE GRAMMATICAL ERRORS THAN YOU COULD SHAKE A STICK AT!---Do you ever feel like others think that you are good at things but secretly, or openly, you think you must just be good at fooling people? I think maybe I'm good at fooling people. Just for the record, this is not a pity post! I've never really felt like I am good at things-yet. I try lots of things looking for my "thing", but I fail a lot. I've found a few and I am continuing to seek out the others. I think we all fail, and that's okay. I have never liked the failing part, but the success is sure worth it. Don't you agree? We always hear that it is all about the getting up again, but I sure hate the starting over part. You all know by now that I do cakes. I love it. I hate it. It stresses me out. And I never thought icing could be so exhausting (kinda like kids I guess). They really are icing, aren't they. You could just smear it on and get by, but making it pretty..doing it right..I think is worth the effort. I hope they remember the effort. Back to the original thought. When I'm starting and in the middle of a cake, I just am sure that "this is going to be the disaster", then-most of the time- I am pleased and shocked at the outcome. I think they turn out pretty well-most of the time. Does that mean I'm good at it, or just lucky?? I think I'm going to go with the first. I know that God has given us each distinct talents-I don't know how cake could get me to heaven, but I'm banking on it- and we are...shy, reserved, humble...about admitting those. Is it not a discredit to Him to shy away when people compliment on a job well done? Whether it be patience, listening skills, friendship, a constantly tidy house (really that is a talent and mystery to me), happy offspring, penmanship, thoughtfulness, learned skills-such as cooking, sewing, photography etc.., hugging (I appreciate this one and married the world's greatest hugger), or people reading skills (that one's for you Summer), we've all got them. Why is it that we have to wait for someone else to stand up and acknowledge them, why do we not do that ourselves? If you believe that would be arrogant, then you may not be giving credit to the right person. What are you good at?

My Fall Cake Poll
So as I was laying in bed last night, I was thinking about this cake coming up. It's actually been a while since my last one and I'm kinda excited. I am having a hard time putting together in my mind just how I want it to look. I need your help again. I think so far my favorite cakes to make are "Scenes" like the spider man one on my cake site. I am considering doing a fall scene of Cache Valley. So, here's where you all come in: What do you think of when you feel fall coming? Don't think cake, I'll take care of that. Just think about what it is about fall that get's you excited, especially things specific to our beautiful valley? Fall in Cache Valley wouldn't be the same without......what?

All Smiles
So after I said how hard it was to catch a smile on camera
from this little guy, I decided to search out his smiles.
These were the majority of pictures I found with him
smiling. There were a few more, but not many. He really does
smile all the time, and it melts me. He is such a goofy
little fella. I love it! I thought I'd share his heartwarming
smile with all of you. Can't get enough.
Fall Harvest Festival Cake
Hey, I am doing a Fall Harvest Themed cake next month and I need some ideas. The internet has not been the creative brain I usually expect for this one. Any ideas! Just throw them at me. I will likely do a 2 or 3 tiered cake covered in fondant, but what's it going to look like??? I haven't got a clue yet. HELP!!!
Weather
So, we used our swamp cooler on Wednesday, they covered it and turned it off yesterday, we turned on our furnace for the first time last night, this morning it's snowing. My favorite season is the season between all the seasons, so Thursday I was in heaven.... Hello Winter! And did I mention that we have a Winter Storm Warning till 6pm tonight.

Work-School-Work-School!
The boys "work" well together. When they aren't using hammers and shovels on each other, they love "working" together. I love having two boys. They are so different, but both 100% boy!
I realize that we don't have very many pictures of Jack smiling which is both perplexing, since he smiles ALL the time, and a little sad since his smile is so very angelic. It melts me every time. New goal: get Jack to smile on command for the camera.
I just thought this was such a random funny face of Sam's. I think at this point in his life and modeling career, 4 1/2 years and 5 million pictures, he is a little annoyed with the camera when he is in "real work mode".

National Rallycross Event
Here are a couple of pictures from the Colorado event we went to. It was great to go on a road trip with Joe. We love them and haven't been in a long time. We left the boys with Joe's parents and had a very relaxing weekend. That was the first time we've left Jack overnight and of course he did great. He is such a good kid, especially when it comes to sleep. He hasn't slept through the night much, but he practically begs to go to bed at 8:30 sharp every night. When it's time, he goes to the gate at the bottom of the stairs and points and cries till I take him up..which is about 1 minute. I'm not one to tell my kids no when they say they're ready for bed. Unfortunately I never have the opportunity to tell Sam no. He would stay up all night every night if we let him.
Get the word out!!!
Lucky You!!! For the grand opening of Cheeky & Swank we have a promo code for family and friends. Go to www.cheekyandswank.com and when you go to check out, enter the code- cheekyfriends- and you'll instantly get 20% off your entire purchase. Also, if you live in the Logan area, Joe can pick up your order and your shipping and handling will be refunded. Tell all your friends and use it while it lasts!!!
So where have I been...
Yep, I'm still here. That's about all sometimes. I feel like I don't have any time, but I don't know where it's going. This summer was great. Since the last post...we went to lagoon (my first time, can't wait to go back), Joe and I spent a weekend in Colorado for a National Rallycross event that he brought home a 3rd place trophy for!, Sam started a Spanish Immersion Preschool (now he and Joe tell secrets in spanish), I ran the Top of Utah 5K (finished with a time of
27:16), I made freezer jam for the first time (with help, I'm not that brave), I got a new calling (Enrichment Coordinator), I am now in week 6 of my recipe exchange (I can still add names if you want), Jack has finally started sleeping through the night (most nights), Sam now wipes and showers without my help, and we went to the Circus (awesome!). I guess it's kinda like the Circus everyday around here. There is so much going on at the same time, and lots more in my head (no voices up there). I keep lists on my mind all the time because I can't seem to get them on paper before I need to use them. I know many of you go through the same thing. That's life, and I love it. I like being too busy to think about anything unpleasant..like dishes, poop on the floor(see Sam's comments), and HUGE spiders that seem to have invaded my house. I have greatly neglected my blog...and I don't really feel that bad about it, sorry. It just isn't at the top of my seemingly long list of priorities. I am going to attempt to do better..but, no guarantees.

Cheeky & Swank is finally here!
Hey everyone, we just wanted to let you all know that Cheeky & Swank is now officially up and running. Check it out and keep checking to see all the new products coming up. www.cheekyandswank.com And ladies, let me be the first to tell you that these clothes look and fit the same even after the washer and dryer. I know that is something I appreciate in my clothes. My favorite T-shirts of Jack's are C&S. For the rest of us too. It has been really interesting and fun to see something start as an idea and finally, after much patience and work, make it into stores, art shows, and a website. Remember the name, someday you'll say you were one of the first to know it and get the word out!

Check it out!
Hey, I just finished another cake. Check it out on my Cakes and Cars link.
I have a couple ideas that I'd love some input on. First a question for all you lovely ladies out there. What do you feed you kids for lunch. I need ideas. I don't buy things like chicken nuggets and corndogs to keep in the house, but I'm having a hard time coming up with healthy quick fixes. My boys are not at all picky (they likely wouldn't get fed if they were:) and I really want to instill healthy eating habits in them now so that they don't have to struggle with it later in life. Any ideas would help a LOT. Here's my other thing. I am going to start a Recipe exchange. Getting new recipes is like Christmas to me and especially ones recommended by other people. I think I will just email one occasionally to anyone who wants them (requests are great) then I'll just hope I get some in return. If you want to participate. Leave me your email or just email it to me at ollaw@msn.com . I'm excited. Let's get cookin'.

The Train to Winslow

Sam thoroughly enjoyed the time he got to spend with aunts and uncles on this trip. Yes that is his fake smile though.

Sam really wanted to give his ticket to someone before we boarded, but it seems we were suppose to keep them. He was quite disappointed, but he loved the train ride.

A Week in the South

Sam and Joe found one of Grandmas ponds and my Uncle Thirl was kind enough to loan poles and tackle.

Princess and the boys were inseperable the entire week. Especially Jack, who, by the way, we do normally put pants on. I couldn't believe how fearless he was with her. And she was so gentle and playful with him. Now Sam wants to move to a different place so that he can get a "real puppy". I guess we've used the "we aren't allowed to have pets at this house" excuse for long enough.

We rode horses with my brothers and my dad one day. Sam was so excited. Jack, not so much. He loved petting them and looking at them, and I'm pretty sure he would have chased them around like they were puppies had we let him. He rode with me, but was a little hesitant with Uncle Luke. I decided that he might be scared of tall people. Just not accustomed to the altitude I suppose.
The Orchard
Sam in search of the perfect peach. There were too many to count...or taste.
I don't know that I ever saw either of them without a peach in hand for very long at a time.

Vacation!
We just got back from a trip to visit my family in AR. We stayed with my grandma and spent a lot of time there. The boys loved her 2+ acre yard and exploring her place. Sam loved the cows and went fishing in one of her ponds. Sam and Joe got to ride around in her golf cart, and Joe finally go to drive a tractor. I think he wants a farm now. (Joe in overalls would be rather comical though.I'll be sure to get pictures if that ever happens.) We spent 3 days in the peach orchard. I'm hoping that we ate enough to hold us over till next year. I hadn't been back for the season since I moved out here. Oh the fuzzy memories that brought back. We had lots of fun, sweat, and relaxation. It's good to be home though.

Where am I?
It's been so long that I almost forgot my login. Well actually I did, but after a couple tries I got it. So, I guess we've had a lot going on. Illness: Sam got really sick for a while and after a night in the ER, complete blood work, a spinal tap (yeah, I said spinal tap), and a 105 degree fever for 5 days, they were able to tell me that he had a virus....oh, then terrible cramping and spinal headaches both from the spinal tap for the next week. Sure glad they ran those tests so that he wouldn't hurt anymore. To say the least, I am a bit frustrated with the entire medical field and I don't think I will ever trust them the way I did before....And I probably won't take my kids back for a while unless I think it's serious. I never thought I'd say that. I was the first one to tell someone to go to the Dr. if they were sick, and especially with kids because they can't tell you how they feel. But after an unnecessary (and painful, then a UTI because of it) catheter in my nine month old and a COMPLETELY unnecessary spinal tap, I'm not that big of a fan anymore. All I ask for is respect, honesty, competency, and a little sympathy from a Dr. and I'm having trouble finding that....WHY?
I have several posts today (hopefully I get them up today), so I decided to do this one first because it makes me so angry just to think about it. Cute pictures will put me back in a good mood though.

Has It Really Been a Year Already?!
Playing Catch Up!
Since my last real post we have had some interesting and fun things happen. Our ceiling fell in in our master bedroom (due to a water leak in the attic), so we were out of our house for a week while that was being repaired. Then, cleaned for what felt like eternity. Jack turned one. I weaned him, which you may not be interested in knowing, but I must say that it is an amazing feeling to have my body belong to me after a 9 month pregnancy and nursing for 1 year. I can breathe again. Sam got to go fishing for the first time (pictures will come). We started excercising again. We have been getting to go out on many drives and nature walks (as Sam calls it). Some real progress has been made in the creation and expansion of Cheeky & Swank (the business Joe has been doing work for and is part owner of).I finally finished all my Cake Decorating classes. Joe has been tearing up the race track this year with his new car (not new, but new to us,actually it's quite old...and awesome). That's a little about what we are up to. I am finding it almost impossibe to find time for blogging lately, so I apologize. Just keep checking.

Missing Cake!!!
If you have looked at my blog in the last couple days, you may have seen the cake pictures. Yep, I posted it on the wrong blog! So, if you want to see it or any of my other cakes (I just posted another new one today) you can check out the Cakes and Cars link on the side of this blog or go to www.lawhobbies.blogspot.com . I am having a hard time finding time to devote to blogging lately. Jack is all over the place!!! I love it!! I should be skinny by now, but alas I am not. Working on it, but not there yet.Not even close. Sam is itchin' to get outside and play for the summer. The weather keeps playing tricks on us. I AM DONE WITH WINTER!!! I think we all are, am I right? The weather is nice today, though. Maybe I should be outside with the kids instead of this.....yeah, I should....bye!

Baby Animal Days!!
It's been a tradition to take Sam, and now Jack also, to Baby Animal Days out at the American West Heritage Center in Wellsville. All of you Loganites and former Loganites are very familiar with it I am sure. I just have to post some pictures and brag on Sam. He never fails to wow me. They had a hatchet throwing game. I actually got it on video, but I don't know how to do the video posts yet. Anyway, he stuck one!!! Now every time he tells the story he follows it by saying: "and I didn't even cut my ear off". I was so proud of him. I love his fearlessness. Here are some pictures of the day. We had a lot of fun!

Easter Beaster!
Sam found some "deer eggs"! And in case you are wondering, they didn't taste nearly as good as the others.
Sam has been very in to all things "learning". He believes that the faster he learns everything, the faster he'll get to go to kindergarten. I guess maybe it should not make me feel good that my son would rather go to school than be at home with me, but it does. I love that he is so eager. We will be in the car and he always wants to play a game: "mom, let's do rhyming", or "let's do opposites". One day his "rhyming was all 'b's . I would say a word and he would ryme it (always with some b word of course). 'road, boad. car, bar. trashcan, bashcan. subaru, bubaru...uh ooops! We have all kinds of car games and I get a real kick out of the funny things he says. We had a great Easter! Good food, family and friends...and the easter bunny was oh so good. He brought Sam Rockem' Sockem' Robots and Jack a Walk and Ride toy in exchange for all the empty eggs that he took and filled with candy and other goodies. Pretty good deal I'd say.
Jack actually took several steps on Easter Sunday. It is adorable to see his little legs working for him. What d'ya think of that easter outfit? Cutest one we could find anywhere!
Pretty sure it wasn't me, mom! Maybe the easter bunny took all the candy back.

Clothes...who needs them?

So, Jack has been unusually grumpy at night lately. We took him to the doctor..no ear infection, just a couple teeth coming in...but, it seemed to be more than just teeth as tylenol appeared to make little or no difference. One night in particular he screamed and screamed and we couldn't find what was wrong so I started my usual routine when that happens. I peeled all his clothes off to see if I could find something poking him or something. As soon as I got all his clothes off, he immediately stopped crying and shortly fell asleep. I couldn't find anything in his clothes but I thought there must have been something bothering him. The next night started about the same way. Screaming. Again, after going down the list of everything else that could be wrong, I took his clothes off of him to check them. Quiet. Happy.Sleep. That was about a week ago, and he hasn't slept in jammies since. He has been sleeping really good and seems so happy to be naked. I know that many kids don't like to wear clothes, but the funny thing is he never fights them or seems bothered by them in the daytime, but at night he just wants his birthday suit. I am just glad that he is okay with wearing a diaper. Anyway, the explanation of these adorable pictures besides the fact that they are just adorable. I have always left him in his jammies for breakfast and nothing has changed. You can see I still do that. I don't even need a bib and I have less laundry. Who needs clothes anyway.
